The interview process was a great experience. I had an initial screen with the recruiter which was very informative and pleasant. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager, a senior level engineer, and the recruiter. The discussion was very positive and felt like we were getting to know each other. It consisted of discussing my experience, what my role was, and what I am looking for.

The interview felt pretty laid-back, mostly focusing on why I wanted to join SSOE. They really want to hire people who are genuinely interested in the company itself, not just looking for a place to move on from later. If your background doesn't quite fit what they do, it's unlikely they'll move forward with you. For example, if your resume heavily features additive manufacturing and that's not something SSOE focuses on, they'll notice the mismatch. It seems like joining SSOE is more about wanting to commit to the company.

The initial step was a phone conversation with HR. They were curious about my background, my project preferences, and what salary I was expecting. Near the end, the topic of visa sponsorship came up. Apparently, they don't sponsor for entry-level roles, which was a bummer, especially since they market themselves as an international company but aren't willing to support international hires. It would have been helpful if this was mentioned in the job description or at the start to save everyone some time.

It was a pretty straightforward interview process. I drove to their local office and met with the engineering manager. We talked about my interests and what I've done before. The manager then told me about the projects the company was working on and what would be expected of me as a co-op. After the interview, I got a tour of the office and met the rest of the team.
