First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SSI Schafer.
Software Engineer
I applied through my university email. First, there was a phone interview where they reviewed my resume and talked for about 20 minutes about the company. Then, I had an onsite interview with the manager. That part went really well, and they asked basic questions like 'what have you done' and 'why'. After that, the manager told me to go talk to some team members. Things went downhill from there. The engineers were unprofessional, complaining about their workload and asking me about software I explicitly stated I wasn't proficient in. They got annoyed when I couldn't answer. The manager reappeared about 40 minutes later, having forgotten I was there, and then I sat in his office while he tried to find HR to escort me out.
- Are you willing to work long hours and without direct supervision?
Software Engineer
I first chatted with HR who told me about the role and the work environment. It wasn't a hard interview, they just asked if I could see myself in this job. After that, I had an in-person interview. It involved writing Java code on a whiteboard with three senior engineers. The interview was pretty relaxed and friendly.
- Can you show me how to initialize an ArrayList?
Software Developer
The interview included technical problem-solving questions and general questions about my experience. The HR team was very respectful. The whole thing didn't take more than an hour, and another appointment was set up. They also asked some SQL questions and what salary I was expecting.
- Tell me about SQL input and commands.
- What are your salary expectations?
