Data Analyst
The HR manager is a big guy and the first round screening was a video call. He was responsive and I got both the screening and second round google meeting interview done within two weeks. The second round video call was done by a tech lead. The video interview went well and I got good comments like "You are so successfully at XXX why you want to leave". I think I was overqualified which might have made the tech lead feel unsafe. I followed up and there's no answer.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to leave a role where you are so successful at XXX?
Senior Node.js Developer
First there was an automated coding assessment that the company outsources, which was kind of hard as it seemed written by someone who doesn't really get Node.js or JS. It was frustrating but doable if you're careful since it's mostly to catch silly errors like missing a parenthesis. After that, I had a first phone screen where they asked about my professional experience over the last 5 years and wanted me to talk about recent projects. There was also some light technical discussion about scaling microservices.
- Can you describe the last five years of your professional journey?
- Could you elaborate on your recent projects?
- What has your professional experience entailed?
Client Success Manager
The first interview, which was supposed to be a video call, was initially missed by the hiring manager and had to be rescheduled. Even at the new time, the hiring manager was late. During the interview, their camera was pointed at their fingers while they typed, and the questions felt very scripted and not like a real conversation about the role. The hiring manager was also answering emails or texts on their phone during the interview, which felt disrespectful. After I explained my experience and withdrew my application, I didn't even get an apology for how the interview went.
- What would you change about the job posting?
Ruby on Rails Developer
Had a 45-hour video call with two tech leads. I talked about my past work and answered questions covering computer science fundamentals, code design, Rails app architecture, RESTful methods, database queries, and RSpec.
- Could you define ActiveRecord and discuss caching strategies in Rails?
- Can you elaborate on token authentication within a Rails application?
- What exactly are RESTful methods?
