First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spring Independent School District.
General Counsel
The interview process moved pretty fast and they were flexible. The actual interview was intense, with about 17 questions in 45 minutes, some felt like repeats. Some questions about duties weren't even in the job description. Also, I'm not a fan of them checking references when you apply – it feels like a waste of my references' time.
- What's your approach to resolving a conflict between the General Counsel and the board of directors?
Substance Abuse Counselor
The initial scheduling call with the assistant was unpleasant; they failed to send the interview invite as promised and were dismissive when I followed up. Upon arrival, I overheard staff negatively discussing the district in the waiting area. The interview itself felt unwelcoming, with tension among the three interviewers, suggesting they might have already made a decision. When I tried asking further questions, the director sarcastically deflected to the others, and they appeared disengaged, with the director yawning throughout. I was not contacted afterward regarding the outcome, despite being told I would be.
- How would you collaborate with the administration in this role?
Assistant Principal
Initially, I thought I was applying for a specific Assistant Principal role, but it turned out to be for the Assistant Principal pool, which I had applied for. The interview process involved assessments based on the Haberman interview and another one called AdminFit, both online questionnaires to gauge leadership potential. While note-taking was allowed during the interview, we couldn't keep the notes afterward. I was notified by email the same night that I didn't pass the Haberman interview and therefore wasn't eligible for the pool. The following day, a different school in the district called about an Assistant Principal opening there. I informed them about my ineligibility due to the Haberman results. I then contacted HR with some questions and received an email from the HR director's assistant to schedule a follow-up call. It's been about two weeks since then, and I haven't heard back.
- What were your results on the Haberman interview questions?
- How do you rate your leadership fitness based on the AdminFit assessment?
Art Teacher
The administrators were really friendly and seemed genuinely interested in how I would approach teaching. They presented me with various classroom scenarios, such as dealing with behavior problems or unengaged students, and asked how I'd handle them. They liked that I shared my own artwork and discussed how my past work experiences had prepared me for this teaching position.
- How would you handle a student who shows no interest in your class?
