Product Manager
The interview process included a 60-minute recruiter screen, a 60-minute hiring manager interview focusing on behavioral questions, a 30-minute recruiter final round prep call, a 60-minute Product Strategy & Impact interview (behavioral), a 60-minute Leadership & Values interview (behavioral), a 60-minute Collaboration w/Eng./Insights/Design interview (behavioral), and a 60-minute "Tech Interview" which was behavioral with some diagramming. The time from application to recruiter screen was 15 days, recruiter screen to hiring manager was 3 days, hiring manager to final round was 13 days, and final round to decision was 19 days. The recruiting process was a bit disorganized. The recruiter for the final interview prep mentioned they don't usually handle Product roles and were covering for someone else, also stating they had no additional information about the Product hiring process. The recruiter couldn't confirm if a technical case would be included, though it wasn't. The "tech interview" briefly involved diagramming a past product and its tech stack on a whiteboard for about 5 minutes, which felt rushed. Each round typically had 1-2 panelists. Most questions were structured/behavioral from a question bank, but some interviewers deviated, unprepared, and rambled. Panelists were transparent about hiring trends, internal mobility, RIFs, team collaboration, and challenges when asked.
- Can you diagram the complete tech stack for a product you've recently worked on?

I went through two stages of interviews. The first one with the HR manager felt more like a casual conversation than a scripted screening, which I genuinely enjoyed. The questions were unexpectedly profound, but the interviewer was quite supportive and friendly. The second interview followed a competency-based format with a Senior product manager. While the interviewer seemed less engaged, my overall experience during this stage was fairly neutral. What truly stood out in the interview process was the exceptional feedback I received from the HR manager after not making it to the next stage. The RPM program is incredibly competitive, possibly one of the most competitive in the tech industry, with thousands of applicants from around the world. I greatly appreciate that, even in such a competitive context, the HR manager found the time to schedule a short call and provide me with detailed feedback. This level of attention is remarkable, especially considering that the RPM program is an entry-level program where constructive feedback is essential for professionals starting their careers. While I eventually received a job offer elsewhere, I still remember the Spotify interview experience as the most healthy and professional in my career!

So my Spotify interview process started back in June 2022 with a quick chat with a recruiter. After that, I had a 1-hour call with the hiring manager. They mentioned they'd set up the final round, but it took ages to get that scheduled - like, until August! I actually had to push for it by letting them know I had another offer on the table that was about to expire. I was super keen on Spotify though, so I turned down that other opportunity. The final round itself felt really good, like I'd nailed it. Based on how positive that interview went, I decided to stop pursuing other opportunities and withdrew from about 5 other interview processes I was in. Fast forward to mid-September, and unfortunately, they let me know they decided to go with another candidate. This whole thing happened after I'd already turned down that one other offer and bailed on those other interviews, all because I was so optimistic about my chances with Spotify.
