First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sporcle.
Web Developer
After submitting my application, I had a HireVue behavioral assessment. I felt this was unfair as I wasn't sure if my resume would even be approved. They stated it would take 10 minutes, but it ended up being over 45 minutes. I don't recommend this stage, you would be better off using that time to apply for other jobs.
- Have you played trivia before?
Web Developer
It was a three part interview. First, they asked some basic questions about me and the software I have used. Second, there was a coding question and a question about changing a website's image using HTML. Finally, the last part involved discussing my previous experiences and behavioral questions.
- What can you tell me about your background and the software you've utilized?
- Could you solve this coding problem involving string types?
- How would you approach changing an image on a website?
Backend Engineer
The interview had 3 rounds. The first round was a culture-fit interview with management. The last two rounds were technical interviews with engineers, including system design and basic algorithmic questions. All answers were given verbally as there was no coding platform.
- Can you describe a method for shortening a URL into a unique string?
- How would you design an algorithm to identify the most frequent letter within a given string?
- Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a fellow engineer.
Live Trivia Host
They want you to send in a video of yourself answering some general questions about your work experience and yourself, plus a couple of trivia questions. After that, there was a phone call with the Host Team manager. It was a short chat about what the job involves, the training, and a chance for me to ask them stuff.
- Have you hosted trivia events before?
