Software Development Engineer in Test
A recruiter contacted me about the role and asked if I was still interested. Then another recruiter got in touch to set up a phone screen. I waited around, but no one called for about 30 minutes, then finally, someone did and conducted the interview.
- Design two related SQL tables for books and bookshelves.
- Provide a SQL query to list all books associated with bookshelf IDs 2 and 3.
- Write a SQL query to find all books on bookshelves named "cool_bookshelf".
Software Engineer
It was a quick and efficient process. Everyone I talked to was really nice and I had a good time. They seemed really interested in hearing about my past experiences. I appreciated that the interviewers were experienced and could really understand and value the work I've done.
- Can you share which aspects of your professional background you are most proud of and elaborate on the reasons?
Software Engineer
The in-person interview, which wasn't a phone screen, was mainly about implementation details. They didn't ask much about design philosophy. They asked a lot about Java, Javascript, and CSS syntax, but sometimes accepted answers that explained how I'd do something even if I couldn't recall the exact syntax. It seems they prioritize familiarity with their specific tech stack over general experience.
- Can you name the specific Javascript function used for making API requests?
Quality Assurance Engineer
The interview process was pretty good. Everyone I spoke with was professional and took the time to tell me a lot about the company and its products. The interviews really focused on the products, and also on seeing if I'd be a good fit for the company culture.
- Were most of the questions what you'd expect for a Quality Assurance role?
- Did some of the questions focus on testing the product, building a team, and implementing and maintaining test automation?
