User Experience Designer
The interview process had 3 rounds. The first was a general chat with the hiring manager, which went okay, but the manager seemed new and didn't really know the products yet. The second interview was with another designer who mostly talked about liking their job and was pretty chill, but didn't ask much. This person was also new and didn't fully grasp the products. The third round was a group interview with designers, the hiring manager, front-end and back-end engineers, and a product manager. It was supposed to be a portfolio review but felt unstructured. The team, mostly new hires with less than 6 months at the company, didn't have many specific questions and hadn't reviewed my portfolio beforehand even though I sent it way in advance. Only one person there had significant experience (5 years) and seemed to know the products well. They asked me to explain my process, but I felt a scenario-based role play with a whiteboard exercise would have been a better way to show my creative thinking, like some other companies I interviewed with who did similar things on the fly, which felt more agile and collaborative.
- Can you describe your design process?
- What is your approach to collaborating with the development team?
Sales Development Representative
I had three interviews. The first two were with sales leaders and the last was with a recruiter/HR. The sales team interviews went great and were very insightful of the company and the job. One of the sales managers even taught me how to "close" him at the end of the interview which is something I'll take with me forever. The second interview with the head of sales went great and she basically told me that I had the job but needed to talk with HR about the culture. Turns out it was another interview and I was rejected after that. I was mainly surprised that HR had the final say and not the sales team. I couldn't figure out how I managed to fail the interview because of HR when Sales wanted me. No feedback was given just a quick rejection email.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully salvaged a deal?
- Describe a situation where you had to save a sale.
Sales Manager
It was a pretty standard interview process for the pandemic. The main hiccup was that they couldn't decide on the job location. First, I was contacted about a role in the SF Bay Area. Then, the recruiter told me it was actually in another location. A few weeks later, the same recruiter reached out again saying the position would be in the Bay Area, so I seriously started the interview process. After over 3 hours of video interviews and a direct promise from an executive that the job would be in Northern CA, I found out that was not true and it was to be in the other location. Since Split doesn't allow remote work, I was no longer eligible.
- What is your current physical location?
Senior Growth Marketing Manager
It was an 8-step process starting with recruiting HR and going all the way up to the Hiring Manager, Team Lead, Cross-functional team members, and finally the CEO. There was also an HR interview focused on culture fit, and then they extended an offer. The whole thing wrapped up in about a month. There were some hiccups with vacations and scheduling, but overall, it went pretty smoothly.
