Web Developer
First I talked to a recruiter, then HR, then a couple of IT folks for the real interview. They also wanted a code sample, but the tasks were kinda pointless and not like anything in the real world. They said they'd hire me, but then kept me waiting for months because they were waiting for client needs to open up a spot. After about 4-5 months of being told "next month", I just stopped replying.
- Could you write code that checks if a string reads the same forwards and backwards?
Social Media Specialist
Recruiter reached out but seemed uninformed about the industry and role. I then interviewed with the Director who was great and discussed large client budgets, which made the role sound appealing. However, the subsequent interview with the team presented a very different picture of the job. They stated client budgets weren't significant and inquired about my willingness to do organic social media, which is not what this role entails. They also expressed disdain for larger agencies, which I found off-putting. It appears the company lacks internal alignment, so I'm actually glad this position didn't work out.
- How would you handle a client who has no budget?
Content Strategist
I interviewed with Spinutech starting in August 2021 and it took three months and FIVE interviews to get an answer in November. First there was a phone screen, then they wanted a second interview. I didn't hear back for over a month even after following up, they said they lost my email. Then I had a second interview with someone from the content team that felt disorganized, and after that I waited another two weeks for another interview. After the third interview, a department lead wanted to talk again (a fourth interview!) about a more senior job that fit my pay needs. She thought I was a good fit because of my experience. I told the lead and my contact that I had other offers but was still interested, but they didn't seem rushed. For my last interview, the fifth one, I talked with the CEO and another lead. I mentioned their poor communication and they apologized. When I asked about the senior job, they said I didn't have enough experience, which contradicted what the other lead said. I'm not sad I didn't get the job, I feel like I avoided a bad situation. If you like being ignored during a long, slow hiring process, Spinutech might be for you!
- How would you align with Spinutech's company culture?
SEO Strategist
So the interview process had 3 interviews. First one was with the Director of SEO and the SEO team lead. They asked more detailed questions about my SEO knowledge and experience. The second interview was with the Director of Data Analytics and Director of Content Strategy. This one was more about working with other teams and checking if I was a good culture fit. The third interview was supposed to be with the President and the VP of Marketing, I even had it scheduled but an hour before, the recruiter told me they felt I had less experience than they wanted, even though I got great feedback from the prior interviews. My advice is, if the hiring manager is on board with a candidate, don't let a couple years of experience stop you from moving forward, especially if they tick all the other boxes. It seems pretty arbitrary and limits your talent pool. For those applying: Make sure you check ALL their boxes or you might end up in the same situation.
- What's your reason for seeking a new role?
