Sperry Rail Interview Questions
& Process

The interview is conducted over Zoom. First, you'll watch a video about what a day is like for a driver at Sperry Rail. Then, you'll chat with a recruiter who will ask if you have a CDL class A, tell you about the company, and see if you have any questions.

Hiring is straightforward. They cover your travel for the interview and explain their operations. The training program spans several months of classroom instruction followed by months of on-the-job training with field trainers. Upon successful completion of training, you'll be hired, and they'll arrange your travel to the training facility. You don't need to relocate from your current home. Throughout the training, you'll face various tests and quizzes, and you need to score 80% or higher to continue. Failing these assessments will result in your departure.

I applied and heard back within a week from a staffing company. Then, I had a face-to-face interview with the manager and an electrical and Linux embedded engineer. They were friendly and asked me to introduce myself, then we went over my projects. They paid close attention to my work and asked questions that were both technical and non-technical. They also asked about my academic interests and career aspirations. The interview was about 1.5 hours, followed by a 30-minute tour. I'm waiting to hear back.

They'll fly you to New York for an in-house interview, and if they like you, they'll send you back to New York for 3 months of Ultrasonics training. After passing the ultrasonics training, you'll go out on a truck with a driver and a Chief Operator and train for 3 months with one Chief, then they'll send you to 3 total until you're ready to be signed off on to be by yourself.
