First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spencer Technologies (Massachusetts).
Director of Global Logistics
Applied two months ago and got contacted. Then had two video calls, each 30 minutes long, with the VP of HR and the VP hiring manager. Waited a week like they said, and after following up, they said they were going in a different direction. A contact who knows the company said they wouldn't recommend anyone they knew to work there. Everything happens for a reason, though.
- What's your reason for leaving your current job?
Finance
I thought I'd get the job after the interview, but I don't want to work there. They never called or emailed to say they hired someone. It wasn't a huge deal since companies are often unprofessional these days, but it showed me the company is really disorganized and doesn't seem to care about work-life balance. Just a general lack of respect or care for people. They really don't value people's time, and the employees seem overworked and unhappy. The managers seemed old-fashioned, narrow-minded, and had preconceived notions. I felt bad for the employees. Guess it was mutual since I never heard back:)
- Tell me about your background.
Account Manager
Applied for an Account Manager role and got a message from the EVP to set up a phone chat. I sent over my availability, but then Spencer ghosted me. After sending 3 follow-ups over two weeks, the EVP finally got back. I had the phone interview with the EVP, where they asked basic screening stuff and if I had experience managing remote teams. At the end, the EVP asked if I could come to SFO for an in-person interview with them and the team, giving me a date. They said they or their OA would follow up with the specific time, location, and travel details. I've sent 2 more follow-ups but still haven't heard anything from Spencer. I get that hiring plans or travel might change, but it would be nice to get an update instead of being left in limbo!!! I know everyone's busy, but I'm also looking for a job!
- Can you share your experience with managing remote teams?
- How would you approach managing a team spread across different locations?
Certified Partner
I applied for an IT job I saw on craigslist and Spencer Technologies got back to me within a few days. They liked my profile and set up a phone and Skype interview. It was a pretty standard interview where they just asked me about my IT background and my resume.
- Can you handle working under pressure?
- What's your experience in the tech field?
- Are you okay with working independently?
