The interview process had 3 steps, plus a sample project that needed to be done by a deadline. The first interview had a few people on the other side. The last two were one-on-one talks with senior leaders. I was in close contact with HR the whole time.

Spelman's interview process was really professional and efficient. Everyone I met was super nice and made me feel welcome, but also maintained a professional demeanor. They didn't ask any strange or out-of-the-blue questions like 'What book are you reading?' or 'What's your biggest weakness?'. Instead, all the questions were directly related to my experience and my ability to perform the job. The entire process wrapped up in under a month from when I applied to getting the offer. It was a really pleasant and respectful experience with everyone involved.

I applied for the job via a staffing agency. About two weeks after I sent in my application, I had a pretty extensive interview with the hiring manager. A week after that, I followed up with the agency. The staffing agency then sent me an email saying Spelman chose me. After about another week to 10 days of sorting out a start date, the agency emailed me late in the day saying the school decided not to move forward, giving 'pedagogy' as the reason. It didn't really make sense to me since I have years of experience as a teacher and in instructional design and e-Learning, and there was no mention that the role required actual experience instructing the content. The interview was in October 2014, and I didn't get a formal rejection letter from Spelman until March 2015. Not a great look for a school that's supposed to be reputable.

I applied and then got a call for an interview pretty fast, within 2 days. The HR person was cool and knew her stuff, which made the first chat nice. But the next interview with the hiring manager was not good. We barely talked about the job I applied for. Instead, they mostly talked about big responsibilities not listed in the job description. If I had known the real job duties, I would not have applied. I felt like they just wanted to get free ideas for their own job from me.
