First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Speedpro.
Account Coordinator
I met with three people, saw the place, and they went over the job and answered my questions about the company, like the culture and what the day-to-day is like.
- Who is responsible for ensuring job satisfaction?
Marketing Director
It was one round for internal hiring, a two-person panel interview covering role qualifications. It was more role-based than focused on cultural fit.
- What is your approach to marketing a brand?
Production Artist
I gave my resume to the owner who was looking to fire someone. He told me to wait a few days for a call back. He called and I went in to speak with him and his wife. They were nice, especially the wife. I got an email and then a phone call with an offer. I initially turned it down but then changed my mind. He was happy to accept my change of heart.
- Can you explain your knowledge of G7 print profiles?
Marketing Assistant
I applied for this Marketing role through a JobBank ad. I spoke with the franchisee before the interview. He mentioned the current person was leaving in under two weeks to go back to school. He described the job as more than what was advertised, involving production and scheduling for new business, plus EA duties. No salary was discussed. I sent my resume, and it still seemed promising. About 4-5 days later, I got an email from a headhunter, which made me suspicious. Recruiting agencies usually mean a pay cut of $3-$5/hr, and sure enough, she said the wage for this job was $11/hr, just above minimum wage, but I was still invited to interview. We had to reschedule the interview time, and I was put in before the workday started. I met her and the franchisee. He spent about 30 minutes detailing the duties, which were really three jobs in one, especially production and his goal to grow the business from $800/day to $2000/day. He shared his vision for client and sector growth. About halfway through, we started a frank discussion about growth sectors, from vehicle wraps to convention display work and getting large print jobs from shops that don't offer them. He then mentioned overtime based on the ESA, 44 hours with no overtime pay. It was clear he was underpaying and looking for someone desperate. I've done this before in this city – three jobs in one – and won't go through that again. Regardless of his intentions, his own calculations showed that at $11/hr, that's about $90/day. He said he averages $800/ticket and wants to reach $2000/ticket daily, which is $40,000 a month. With only 3 employees and himself, labor costs would be around $7,500/month. Production costs wouldn't exceed $10k/month. Rent is only $3k/month. So, he's profiting about $20k/month minus car and advertising expenses, which he didn't seem to spend much on. The interview ended amicably and appropriately. 3-4 days later, the recruiter emailed saying they hired someone with more suitable skills. I had all the skills, but not for that wage.
- Could you elaborate on your experience with production and print types for large print items?
- What is your familiarity with the equipment required for large print production?
- Describe your approach to prospecting for clients in a role like this.
