I first had a chat with a recruiter who seemed really impressed with my resume and experience. Even though they liked my skills, they kept me hanging for over a month and a half without an interview, saying I was 'not a yes, but not a no.' When I finally got an interview, they asked me about a project that had nothing to do with their products, even though my resume showed relevant experience. They also seemed taken aback when I asked a simple question about the company.

It was a mix of individual and panel interviews, all felt pretty friendly. It kicked off with a phone screen with the recruiter, followed by another with the hiring manager. After that, I was invited onsite for a series of one-on-one meetings with people from different departments and potential future teammates. During these, I was asked about my expectations for the role and what I believed my contributions could be.

It was a pretty standard interview process. I applied online, and then a recruiter got in touch via email for a phone screen about a week later. After that, I had a call with the hiring manager where they asked pretty standard questions like why I wanted to work there, what made me a good fit, my technical skills, and if I could work well individually and in a team. That call went well, and then I was invited to HQ to meet the team. I met everyone one-on-one, and they asked about my qualifications but seemed more focused on whether I was a cultural fit rather than my resume. The whole thing took a few weeks, and the pay was better than I expected.

The interview process involved an initial phone call followed by an in-person interview. There was a possibility of a second in-person interview if I moved forward. The recruiter was really nice and kept me updated. However, going to the Speck office and meeting with the managers was a bit concerning. The in-person interview itself was very informative, though. Speck was going through a lot of changes then, and you could tell. The front desk area was a mess with packages everywhere. Most of the people I interviewed with had been at Speck for less than a year, except for one person who had been there a bit over a year. They were upfront about the company's current challenges and asked how I would handle them in the role. After being kept in the loop for over a month, I was told they hired someone else. It just didn't feel like a stable place to work.
