First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
PT Aide/Clerk
It was a 30 minute chat with the clinic director and front desk, more like a conversation than a formal interview. It was a nice experience. They gave me a tour of the clinic and introduced me to the physical therapist and some patients.
- What are your career aspirations for the next 5 years?
Occupational Therapist
I interviewed at Salem- Spaulding North Shore. It was a 3-part process. First, I met with the hiring rehab supervisor who showed me around the facility and went over the job duties. Then, I met with the rehab director and two rehab supervisors. Finally, I met with two staff OTs. They all asked me about my previous experience and if I was interested in working with their patient population. They also asked questions about how I would handle difficult patients or families, how I would deliver bad news or make recommendations that might not be popular with a family, and what I would do in different scenarios. It took several weeks to get a decision, but HR eventually called with an offer. It's a union position, so they said the salary was not negotiable and that I would have to contribute union dues whether I decided to join the union or not.
- How would you handle a situation where an angry family member is yelling and the situation is getting worse?
Unit Coordinator
I sent in my application and after about two weeks, I got a response to schedule an interview. The first interview was with HR because the manager was unavailable. She was very professional and the interview itself was pretty relaxed. About a week later, I came back for a second interview with the manager, and that was also very relaxed, and they ended up offering me the job. They weren't so much focused on technical stuff but more on if I'd be a good fit.
- What are your future career goals?
Registered Nurse
I talked to HR first, they looked over my resume and asked some general interview questions. Then I met with the nurse manager. She told me a bit about the job and the units, and then she introduced me to some people who work on the floor.
- Could you share your most and least favorite clinical experiences and explain your reasoning?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle a challenging patient or family member, and what was the result?
- What motivated you to pursue nursing, and what are your future career aspirations?
