The first phone screening went well. I felt like the questions were on point and I got to talk about what I'm interested in and what I can do. But then, the interview with the hiring manager was something else. It felt like there was no real plan for the interview, and I wasn't sure what we were even supposed to be talking about. The hiring manager didn't ask me anything and seemed checked out, like they'd already made up their mind. They did mention the team was understaffed, but instead of asking how I could help, it sounded more like they were just complaining. Honestly, it felt like a waste of my time, and it was pretty unprofessional and unexpected.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

The interviews were long, but good conversations. There was also an assignment, series of tests, and a budget exercise. Multiple rounds of interviews which is to be expected for a VP level role. My biggest concern is that before proceeding to the 5th and hopefully final round, I was only given one available time slot that the panel could interview me with only 24 hours notice. I offered multiple other days and times that I could come in, but with the holiday approaching was told they would get back to me. That was over a month ago, and I was completely ghosted and never contacted. I find this incredibly unprofessional, and perhaps dodged a bullet.

Behavioral

They asked me why I applied for the job and if I knew about the company. I did my research and have all the qualifications. They asked about my knowledge of their core values. It felt like they really wanted someone who knows the company well, especially the core values, which I thought they could have presented in a more engaging way. I didn't get an offer, but I would have declined anyway because they seem too self-focused, the pay isn't great, and the previous person left because they outgrew their skills, suggesting a lack of professional growth opportunities.

The interview process was more involved than my past interview experiences. There were multiple interview stages as well as a practical exam. I enjoyed each stage as it allowed me to meet more members of the team, and also proves that Spartan takes the time to review each candidate thoroughly to ensure that the candidate will be successful in a unique and fast-paced environment.
