First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Spark Education Group.
Course Consultant
I was contacted by a headhunter for this role. The interview process spanned three separate days. First, I met with the team manager, who asked me to demonstrate how I would sell a consumer product. Next, I interviewed with the head of ASIA, and finally, the CEO. The HR and manager weren't very clear about the commission structure, but the CEO did explain it well.
- Can you tell me about your sales experience?
- How would you go about selling this iPhone to me?
- What type of team do you prefer to work with?
Curriculum Development Manager
The interview process was quite unusual. There were 7 interviews over 6 weeks, with representatives from every department. Each interview was about an hour long, direct, and somewhat dysfunctional. It seemed the company wasn't well-coordinated, and department heads had different ideas about the job description. I got confused and concerned after the fifth interview, but they kept moving me forward. After a very long process, I was offered a position starting in late January or early February. Then they ghosted me, which was disappointing but not entirely surprising. This experience with Spark was unique. If you're interviewing with them, get any offer in writing. Also, ask about their connection to their Chinese headquarters, as key decision-makers are in Beijing, though their main office is in Singapore. It was a very confusing process with bizarre behavior. Don't stop your job search based on anything verbal they tell you.
- How can young learners be engaged with mathematics through learning games?
- What signs indicate that teachers require improvement in their teaching methods?
Teacher
The interview process was confusing, with unclear role expectations and repeated interviews with team members who seemed unsure about the position. There were also issues with cultural awareness, particularly concerning the Chinese team. Some questions asked were inappropriate, and there was a general disrespect for my time. Additionally, there was a significant gap between the expected compensation and what was offered.
- Can you describe your teaching strategies?
- What methods do you use for student engagement?
Mathematics Teacher
It was a three step interview, with the second step being quite lengthy. I had to take an exam, and the interview itself went on for over 40 minutes. After that, I met with the Head of Department, who asked if I had negotiated my salary. I said no because the recruiter mentioned they could match it. It's been two weeks with no update. If you don't want to hire me, please just reject me properly, especially after taking up so much of my time!
- What are the challenges you encounter as a teacher in the classroom setting?
