Mechanical Engineer
The SpaceX/Starshield interview process is pretty tough and takes about 5-8 weeks, involving multiple steps. They really dig into your technical skills, how you solve problems, and if you fit their fast-paced, mission-focused vibe. Usually, it starts with 2-4 pre-screening rounds. First, a recruiter will chat with you about your background, why you want to join, and if you meet the basic requirements. Then, the hiring manager or a technical person will go deeper into your resume and projects, likely asking specific technical questions for the role, like about engineering basics, coding, or system design. You'll need to show you can think from first principles.

Mechanical Design Engineer
Basic process for a first-round interview. First, we'll ask you to talk about your projects and experience, and why you're interested in SpaceX. Then, we'll dive into some technical questions covering fundamentals of mechanics of materials, focusing on cantilever beam problems with bending and torsion. We'll also touch on ideal gas law thermodynamics situations and some fluids problems about buoyancy. Lastly, we'll give you a chance to ask us questions about the company and the position if you have any.
- Regarding a cantilever beam with a point load at the free end, where would failure most likely occur?

Mechanical Engineer Intern
I had a great experience interviewing for SpaceX. The process involved three rounds. Round one was a phone call with the hiring manager where they discussed the role and responsibilities, then asked about a big problem I solved, and wrapped up with some behavioral questions. A few days later, I got invited for a second round, a technical panel interview with two engineers. This mainly covered basic mechanical engineering concepts like Hooke's law, beam deflection, material properties, heat transfer, and manufacturing processes. There were also some questions specific to the role and about software I know. At the end, they said I'd hear back soon. I got an email about 10 days later about a 15-min call for next steps, and then got offered the position over the phone.
