& Process

I went through an interview for a faculty role in the Engineering Department. It involved an on-campus visit which happened during a really busy semester time. I put in a lot of work to attend, missing teaching duties, traveling quite a bit, and getting together specific materials they asked for. After the interview, they wanted to know about my ideas for working with local institutions, which I detailed to show I was keen. But then they told me they could only offer a part-time role with much less pay because of budget issues, which was a surprise since it was presented as full-time. It would be smart to check about budget and hiring limits early on. Universities ought to be upfront about salary and job status before expecting candidates to spend so much time and effort on interviews and follow-ups.

The interview was chill, a single round you could do in person or online with a student worker, the supervisor, and another admissions expert. They asked stuff to see if you'd be a good fit personality-wise and for the job.

The interview process was quite intensive, but all interactions were positive and it seems like a phenomenal place to work with immense potential for teacher growth. The teaching staff are experienced and competent, and the college is perfect for nature lovers. The first interview was virtual with 2 teachers. The second interview was in-person and intensive. It involved a presentation on an ESL topic of my choice to a panel, followed by a short break. Then, I taught a 15-minute lesson to actual students, observed by 3 teachers. Afterwards, there was a campus tour and a 1-on-1 meeting with the head of the ALCC.

The interview happened at the college's flight school at KCDC. There was a panel of four people, including the chief flight instructor. I was told I'd be asked HR questions and would have to teach two topics from a list, one I pick and one they pick. This oral part lasted about an hour and had a lot of questions. After that, I did a flight check in a Cirrus SR-20, a plane I hadn't flown before. They knew this and said they'd just check my general flying skills. The flight was about 45 minutes and included standard checks like slow flight, stalls, steep turns, emergency descent, and a landing. They didn't give much feedback during the flight, only telling me what to do. At the end, the chief pilot shook my hand and asked if I had questions. I didn't, and he said he'd call in a few days.
