First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at South32.
Engineer
It was a pretty straightforward interview process, nothing out of the ordinary. It involved an HR person and two line managers who conducted the interview. They also gave details about the role and the team roster.
- How can safety be improved within the company culture?
Specialist
I got referred and then applied online. Before the interview, I had to do an assessment with some tricky math puzzles. You have to finish the whole thing because there's a time limit. After that, I had one interview round and the HR process. The whole thing took about a month.
- Tell me about your past experience.
- How would you handle [scenario]?
Commercial Finance Manager
Saw the advert, had a phone call, then a panel interview. After that, selection and then an offer. The interview had HR, finance, and department people, plus the interview chair. Each asked four questions and they rated them for a scorecard. They send a first offer, then a final offer. Need to discuss benefits and open a workday file for each employee.
- What makes you the right candidate for this role?
Category Specialist
I had to complete a 2-hour online test covering verbal, numerical, and logic tasks. Following that, there was a panel interview where I discussed my experience and gave situation-based answers. The application and my profile asked for salary expectations, but the panel seemed surprised by my figure. I didn't expect to get the job because my expectation was much higher than their offer. It would have been nice to get a call or email from HR about it, especially since the process took nearly 4 hours of my time.
- Can you describe your approach to analyzing intricate data sets?
