First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at South Pole.
Managing Consultant
It started with a chat with HR, then I met the hiring manager. After that, I had a take-home technical test that included a presentation. The process ended with a final panel discussion, and those folks were also around if I had more questions later.
- Can you describe your experience with GHG accounting and setting climate targets?
- What do you know about GHGP and SBTi?
Consultant
It started with a call from the recruiter, then a test. Honestly, it feels like they're not actually looking to hire for many of the roles they advertise. It seems like they're using the hiring process to get free consulting from skilled applicants. This 'exam' isn't really testing knowledge; it's more like giving them solutions to their internal issues. You put in a lot of time and effort with your answers, and then they don't hire anyone. They take advantage of people wanting to work for them, get all their ideas to solve their own problems, and then ghost them. I suspect these job openings are just a way to get free consulting. This feels like fraud.
- Why I want to work there, and about the work I did at my last job, general stuff.
- On the exam, they wanted huge amounts of written solutions, very detailed and technical.
- They even asked for a PowerPoint!
Managing Consultant
The interview process had about 4 to 4.5 rounds. It started with 1 or 1.5 rounds with a recruiter. Then, there was a round with someone at my level, which included a mix of standard behavioral questions and some less challenging technical questions. Following that, a technical round involved making slides for a proposal deck within a time limit. The final round was with my reporting manager and an HR representative, featuring a blend of behavioral and technical questions.
- How do people close to you describe your personality?
