Phone screening: It's a short, initial call (10-20 mins) with HR or a recruiter to check basic fit, motivation, salary expectations, clarify your CV, and see how you communicate. They'll decide if they want to invite you for a formal interview after this. Interview: This is more in-depth, could be one or more rounds. It might be behavioural, technical, or case-based, usually with the hiring manager and/or team. They're looking at your skills, experience, cultural fit, and how you solve problems using past examples. This leads to a shortlist or final decision. Offer: You might get a verbal or written job offer with details on the role, salary, start date, and conditions. After that, there's contract signing and onboarding.

After they looked at my resume, I had an interview with the chiefs. It was like, first HR stuff, then technical things. They asked me stuff about how I'd handle situations with FOI, and also some questions about aeronautical charts and the school's SOP.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process involved meeting with various faculty members. During these interactions, one individual expressed concerning views about campus diversity, stating a preference for an all-white male faculty and implying that diversity hires (females and faculty of color) were merely a compliance measure. This was quite shocking. The interim head of the department seemed unaware of the department's objectives and mentioned that an external candidate would be hired as the new head, suggesting that this new head would then be able to clarify departmental goals. It was clear from the conversation that a female or person of color would not be considered for the head position.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • Could you discuss your values as a Christian and as a male?
  • Do you intend to recruit women into your research group?
  • Are you comfortable working with female colleagues in the department?
