First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sotheby's International Realty.
Intern
The interview process was good, but the role I ended up in wasn't what I applied for. It felt like the hiring manager didn't quite grasp the position the company was looking for, so I ended up doing something different while I was there.
- Can you share your past experiences?
- What are you interested in?
- Walk me through your academic background.
Sales Consultant
First I got a call and did a phone interview, then they invited me for an in-person interview at the company office. The interviewers were super friendly, made me feel comfortable, and really wanted to know more about me as a candidate. They asked about my work history, my education, and what I'm good at, as well as where I could improve.
- Can you tell me about your work experience?
- What did you study?
- What skills do you have?
Private Client Account Officer
Over three days, I spoke with three levels of management, starting with the branch manager for the specific location, followed by two people in the private banking hierarchy. They explained that the Private Banking role is essentially a sales position focused on acquiring new clients, with a required quota that would increase with my experience. I'd initially be given a few clients, but my primary responsibility would be to engage with the community and find new ones.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What was your past earnings performance?
- What brokerage licenses do you currently hold?
Project Coordinator
It was a professional and well-run interview process with great questions. It was more laid-back, as they wanted to get to know me as a person, not just a job filler. I spent about 90 minutes with the interviewer, who was the co-owner of all 8 locations. He was a great interviewer, very open about the company, candid, and more concerned with company fit and future potential than actual experience.
- What are your long-term career aspirations over the next 5 to 10 years?
