I went to a meet and greet and got to talk to HR, hiring managers, project leads, and people working on the projects. It was a really good way to get to know the company, the team, and what it's like to work there.

It was a phone interview, and the process was smooth. They were informative and responded quickly. However, there are quite a few steps to get hired, including various tests through the Southern California School of Interpretation. You'll have to complete an online training program and spend many unpaid hours before there's a chance of being hired.

The whole hiring process, from applying online to getting the offer, took about 4 weeks. It's really key to connect with current employees to get a feel for how things work and to manage your expectations regarding their HR practices. I talked to recruiters and program managers, but I never got the chance to meet with the main manager for the role. The job offers are pretty open-ended about the specific position and duties, giving SOSi and the main contractor a lot of wiggle room, with fewer options for employees. The benefits package looks good for a year-long overseas assignment, including a completion bonus, time off, and financial perks. However, if I were to come back, I'd expect a significant raise after what seems like an unstated trial period.

I got an email from a Talent Acquisition Sourcer about the job, and we scheduled a call that went well, leading to in-person interviews. I had two interviews back-to-back. Both were a bit strange. The first interviewer, the CIO, seemed okay but sat far away from me. The conversation was fine, and he was pleasant. The second interview was the worst I've experienced in my 30+ years of working. It was with the Director of Enterprise Information Technology, who also sat awkwardly far away. It was hard to make eye contact, and the interview felt hostile because he started cursing about the work. He was dressed casually too, without a jacket or tie. I regret not leaving then.
