First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SOS Children's Villages International.
Digital Skills Instructor
I went in for an in-office interview with a panel of four serious-looking people. They didn't start with any friendly chat or icebreakers, just went straight into asking questions. The questions were pretty standard interview questions, nothing too difficult or unexpected.
- Tell me about your skills related to the job.
Early Childhood Educator
The interview was in person at the association's offices. It was a good, rich discussion. After hearing the full description and conditions of this position, I was able to share all my experience, especially my early career experience at the children's home, which left me with memories of childcare and teamwork. At the end of this exchange, it made me want to be part of this team.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
IT Officer
the process was very straightforward. It started with an assessment test, and then there was an in-person interview. The people were very professional. The IT manager, who is based in Kenya, joined the interview remotely. The interviews started a bit later than scheduled.

Manager
So I went through this super long, 3-month hiring process at SOS Children’s Villages Indonesia for a Manager role. It got all the way to the end, the final stage, where they asked me to submit my Verklaring letter. Basically, this document means you're committing to leave your current job, which is a big deal. After I sent it in, HR just went radio silent for like 3-4 weeks. Then they finally got back to me saying I didn't get the job. Honestly, it felt super unprofessional and a real bummer because asking for the Verklaring felt like they were about to offer me the position. Luckily, I have a good relationship with my old boss, so I could go back to my old job, but the whole thing was a massive disappointment. My advice to SOS Children’s Villages Indonesia: really think it through before you post a job and make candidates go through all this. Show some respect for people's time and be more thoughtful in how you hire.
- HR Interview: Can you tell us about your background and career aspirations? (2 hours)
- User Interview: Can you answer technical questions specific to the job role? (Over an hour)
- Assessment Test: Complete a technical test covering strategic thinking, planning, and non-profit knowledge.
