First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at soona.
Account Development Representative
We started with a phone call with someone from TA, then I chatted with a co-founder, and finally, I had a 30-minute Zoom chat with two sales managers.
- Can you tell me about your experience in account management and development?
Director of People
So, the Director of People interview at soona was supposed to be simple, like three steps, done in about a month. But nope, it dragged on for six steps, took way over three months, and I talked to six different people. They say they care about DEI, but the interview process kept changing without notice, which made me question that. I found out they've had layoffs in 2022, 2023, and 2024, even with all the funding. People who stayed or just started seemed pretty unsure about their jobs. Also, it seemed like the CEO didn't really get the finances or what it takes to lead, which probably explains why everything felt so chaotic and unstable. The CEO then scheduled a final in-person meeting after I thought it was done, but then cancelled it last minute, saying there was an emergency board meeting. Then, during the time we were supposed to meet, I got an email saying they were going with someone else, no reason given. I asked for feedback multiple times but got nothing, which felt rude and unprofessional. Honestly, I'm not even upset about not getting the offer; I just want to work somewhere that's actually respectful and transparent. It's the lack of basic communication and the senior leaders, especially the CEO, acting unprofessionally and without integrity that's disappointing. The positive chats with the team were a stark contrast to the senior leaders' lack of business sense and executive presence. Hopefully, this helps soona do better with potential and current employees and actually live up to their stated values.
- How has your experience been with managing layoffs?
Photographer
There were three rounds in total, including a working interview on the final day. My portfolio allowed me to skip the second round. It was one of the easier interviews I've had. Everyone was really nice, and it was fun to see the studio. The team said I would get the job, but I never did, which was a bit disheartening.
- Have you worked in a studio before?
Marketing
I went through several video interviews with the director and team members. After the last interview, they ghosted me without any follow-up.
