Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sonic.
Software Developer
I view failures and setbacks as chances to learn and grow. When I hit a setback, I look at what went wrong, figure out how to improve, and then use that knowledge.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a difficult situation?
Software Developer
So I had this phone interview, then a coding exercise, then a webcam interview with 4 developers. After that, I had an on-site interview with 3 other developers, and then a second on-site interview with 3 more developers. To top it off, there was a breakfast with a senior director. Even though they kept saying feedback was great and I was a strong candidate, still no offer. They're blaming it on Sonic and Inspire brands not being 'aligned'. It's weird they'd interview people if they can't make an offer to good candidates. The whole thing took over 4 months.
- Tell me about the coding exercise.
Programmer
The interview process was quite disorganized, involving over 4 interviews. They conducted both cultural and technical interviews. Some candidates had to take a test, while others completed questionnaires. It was strange when interviewing with a VP who didn't seem familiar with my resume or background. I was told I would receive an offer that afternoon via call and email three separate times. This went on for 30 days until they finally canceled the process, impacting 5 candidates. It felt like there was a lack of coordination with upper management, and the overall process seemed flawed.
- Could you elaborate on the performance differences between threads and processes, particularly regarding context switching and resource usage?
