I applied online and got a call the next day, but they didn't leave a message. I called back and it turned out to be the manager for Sonic's, asking me to come in for an interview for a cook position. I went to my first interview dressed up nicely in an oxford shirt, khaki slacks, and dress shoes, basically how you'd dress for church. When I got there, a carhop greeted me and asked if I wanted a drink, then told me to wait outside for the manager. I waited about 20 minutes for the manager. I'm not sure if that was a test or if he was just unprepared. After working there for 4 months, I can confirm it was because he was unprepared. The interview itself was short and friendly. The manager, called an operating partner, asked me several standard questions like, 'Describe a circumstance where you provided good customer service,' 'How would you handle a difficult customer situation,' 'Would you be willing to stay late and work if needed,' and 'Would you report theft?' I aced the interview by answering all questions quickly and making direct eye contact. We even joked a bit about certain situations. He told me to come back for a second interview with an assistant manager. After working there, I realized this basically means you have the job; it's just that company policy requires two interviews. If the assistant manager likes you and thinks you'd be a good fit for the team, you'll get offered the job that day. The second interview was more of the same, with standard questions rated on a 1-3 star scale, where 3 is a good answer and 1 is bad. So, if you see them writing 3s next to your answers during the interview, that's a good sign.
