First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sonatrach.
Laboratory Chemist
I've been working as a laboratory analyst for oil and gas samples for over 8 years. My role involves analyzing these samples to determine their composition, quality, and value, as well as identifying their source. I use a variety of scientific techniques, including measuring liquid density, testing for specific chemical compounds, and performing other tests to identify physical properties.
- Can you tell me about your experience conducting experiments?
- What are your responsibilities when analyzing oil and gas samples to determine their composition, quality, and value, and identifying their source?
- What scientific techniques do you use for sample analysis?
HSE Engineer
I had a significant experience related to a career orientation through the ANEM. After waiting for 12 months, the project, which was initially planned within the Sonatrach RTO framework in Kénanda, Relizane, was cancelled by a decision from the wali for reasons I consider unfounded. This episode strengthened my ability to manage uncertainty and motivated me to pursue opportunities that allow me to contribute effectively to projects while remaining resilient in the face of administrative challenges.

Electrical Engineer
I had an interview for a cathodic protection engineer position. It was at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene. It had three parts: first, personal data entry and some job questions; second, a psychometric test; third, a written test on electrical engineering. The next day, there was an oral interview. It was a good experience, and the tests were okay.
- What does the magnetic part of a magnetothermal circuit breaker eliminate?
- How can you change the speed of a wound rotor motor?
- What is the approximate ratio of no-load current to nominal current for a power transformer?
Production Engineer
It was a 1-hour session that included a psych exam and a logic test, followed by a written technical exam focused on production, specifically petrophysics and intervention operations. The logic part was about basic arithmetic, and they mentioned you don't have to answer everything. The psych part involved questions about your personal life and experiences, and also asked you to explain your master's dissertation in simple terms, like explaining it to a five-year-old.
- Explain your master's dissertation like I'm 5.
- Questions about personal life and experiences.
- Normal arithmetic operations (logic exam).
