First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Somo.
UI Designer
The interview process initially had great communication and quick turnarounds. However, it became a very bad experience later on. After the first round, I was called for a second round which I was excited about, but it got rescheduled twice by Somo. The interviews themselves went well. A few days later, I was told the position was filled. Three weeks after that, the recruiter contacted me again via email and LinkedIn saying the position was open again. Because they liked my resume/portfolio/profile a lot and based on my past interviews, they wanted to push me to a final round. My final round interview was scheduled for Thursday, but the day before, Somo rescheduled it to Friday. After preparing thoroughly for this important final interview, it was cancelled an hour before it was supposed to start. Although I was really hoping to get the job, the overall experience was pretty rough.

Strategy Director
The interview process was disrespectful. It started with a recruiter call where they explained the role, then I had a second, long, and thorough interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager asked great questions that really uncovered my skills, and seemed pleased, promising to follow up the next week. It's now been 3 weeks with complete silence from the company. I followed up with the recruitment team, but still heard nothing. It's extremely disrespectful. People put time into interviews, so the least you can do is send an email saying you chose another candidate, rather than ghosting people who ask for feedback.

I applied on their website and got a super fast response from the recruiter, way quicker than other places. The first interview was with the UX VP, and I had to show a case study. Then, I had a second interview with other product and design folks; this one was more chill, about culture fit and letting me ask questions. I heard back the next day, so the whole thing took about a week, which was awesome. When I got the offer, there was still some confusion about the contract details, but they set up two calls for me with Somo – one with the UX VP again, and another with a long-time employee there.
- What does your case study demonstrate?
- What's your reason for leaving your current job?
Senior QA Engineer
My interview process involved two interviews. The first was with my direct manager, and the second was with their manager about a week later. Both were appropriately challenging and assessed my knowledge well. The interviews felt informal, but if you've done your research and know your stuff, they're straightforward. Now that I've interviewed others here, I suspect the process can vary a lot depending on the interviewer and department, and might not be standardized. While my experience was one-on-one, it seems like panels with the manager-to-be and a team member are more common. I'm not sure if they still conduct two interview rounds. I liked my interviews; the first one with my manager was more casual than the second. The difficulty was just right, and it was okay to admit if I didn't know something, as long as I explained why and how I'd find out.
