First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SOMFY Group.
Marketing
I went through 4 interviews in total. First, I had an in-person meeting with HR and local Directors. Then, a second remote interview with Group Marketing leaders. Finally, two more remote interviews with the VP and a Board member. The whole process had a good and positive vibe throughout. It did take longer than I expected, mainly because of the Christmas break that happened in the middle.
- What is your approach to handling team members who are not meeting expectations?
- Could you share your past experiences regarding brand strategy?
- Do you have any experience or knowledge of the Agile methodology?
Purchasing Commodity Manager
First stage was about a 45 min chat with HR about skills, professional background, etc. and knowledge about the Somfy group. Second stage was an interview with the purchasing manager, who was 10 minutes late. It was very disappointing, almost no questions about the candidate's professional background, a cold interview with no interest in the candidate. Then, no feedback at all, which I find unacceptable. I do not recommend the Somfy company (purchasing department).
- What do you know about the Somfy group?
- Why do you want to leave your current company?
Engineer
First, there's a quick screening call (phone or video, 20-30 min) with a recruiter to check your motivation, make sure you get the job, confirm your main skills/experience, and talk about salary/location. Then, a technical interview, usually with a senior engineer or tech lead. This might involve a coding test, problem-solving, modeling, or a case study, plus theory questions on relevant skills (like algorithms or distributed systems) and checking your methodology. After that, a case study or role-play exercise, which you solve in a limited time (1-2h) – maybe building a predictive model for Data Science or designing an API for software engineering. Sometimes this is a take-home assignment that's discussed later. Then, you'll chat with the direct manager to see how you'd fit the team, talk about actual projects, and assess stress management, rigor, and communication. Next is an HR/cultural fit interview with an HR person or Talent Partner, focusing on company values, soft skills (teamwork, adaptability), and career path. Finally, there's a last chat with a tech director, CTO, or management committee to make sure your profile matches the company's strategy and to confirm mutual interest. If all goes well, you get an offer and discuss terms like salary, benefits, remote work, and start date before signing.
- Can you share an instance where teamwork was crucial in solving a tough problem?
- Describe a time you encountered failure or an error. What was your response?
- Tell me about a situation where you had a conflict with a coworker or your manager. How did you handle it?
Customer Service Manager
After two remote interviews, I was asked to come in for a panel interview. The next day, I received a call saying I did extremely well, had a perfect score, and would get an offer the next day. The next day, I got an email saying I had to come in again for another panel interview, this time with executives. I did that on a Wednesday, and by Friday, I hadn't heard anything. I emailed my contact, who said I'd get an offer in the next few days. That was the last I heard from them. I reached out to several people at the company, but no one got back to me. Be careful when interviewing with them. Don't assume they will make you an offer, even if they say they will.
- Can you share an instance where you made an error in judgment? What was your mistake, and what insights did you gain from the experience?
