First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Solvay.
Chemical Engineer
The interview process largely involved technical problems. They were challenging but manageable. Expect to discuss heat exchangers, pumps, and distillation. The interviewers were approachable and willing to share information about the company. There was ample opportunity to ask questions, unlike some other places that limit you to just a couple.
- Can you discuss technical aspects of unit operations?
Chemical Engineer
It started at the career fair where I got an interview. The first interview was with one young employee and a senior manager. I was moved on to the second round which lasted around six hours. Numerous people interviewed me and there was a panel interview of 6 or 7 people.
- What are your thoughts on a given process/scenario that could lead to danger, and what actions would you take as a team lead in that situation based on the examples provided?
Chemical Engineer
It was conducted over the phone. The interviewer spent a lot of time initially introducing the plant and the role's expectations. Following that, they began asking questions. The questions covered both behavioral and technical aspects. At the conclusion, there were opportunities to ask the interviewer questions.
- Can you describe how you would design a distillation column?
