Software Engineer
Setting up the interview was super easy, just email to find a time that worked. When I got there, I met with four people. First up was the HR recruiter who gave me the rundown of what to expect. Then, I chatted with a software engineer lead who asked me some basic Java questions like abstraction and polymorphism, and also about my previous work. After that, another lead, who was more like an architect, asked me similar questions and talked about my experience. Lastly, the VP of the division came in, told me about the perks, and basically tried to convince me to take the job.
- Could you explain the mechanics of multiple inheritance in C++?
- Regarding C++ multiple inheritance, what is the outcome when an object inherits from two distinct parents that share a common parent?
- Can you discuss fundamental Java concepts such as abstraction and polymorphism?
Software Engineer
I applied for the internship through my university's career fair. They called me in for an interview about a week later. The interview itself was short and to the point. They asked me a lot about my skills and what I might expect working at their company. It seemed like they were really pushing co-op positions, which made me think they might need more people for that. The questions weren't super technical, more about my current projects. I didn't hear back for a few weeks, and then I got an email saying I didn't get the job.
- For how long have you been coding?
- Can you tell me about your skills in SQL?
- Can you tell me about your skills in Java?
Software Engineer
I saw the job on LinkedIn and applied because a friend who used to work there referred me. I applied on a Wednesday, had an interview that Friday, and got the offer that following Monday.
- Can you tell me about typical programming questions regarding polymorphism?
- How would you explain the practical application of polymorphism?
- Could you describe the differences between 'x' and 'y'?
