Technical Case Presentation
I applied for a different role at Solace but the recruiter reached out about a PM opening instead. The first step was a take-home case study, which took about 4–6 hours, before I even spoke to anyone on the team or the hiring manager. This felt a bit odd. The task involved finding bugs in their product and creating a proposal for a new feature. I submitted it and then got a standard rejection email a few days later. I followed up a couple of times but never got any specific feedback. Honestly, the whole experience felt pretty impersonal and took up a lot of my time. I'd suggest Solace rethink asking for such a big time commitment upfront.

The interview process was long, with 3 interviews and a big project. The recruiter was responsive which was nice. Then I was told I was not selected because there were three people ahead of me, which was a strange reason but I was okay with it. After that, there were no more updates and I got a generic response saying they chose someone else. What's even weirder is that the job was posted again. It's really disrespectful to candidates who spend so much time interviewing to be treated like this, especially after being told I was a great fit. I'm actually glad this happened because I don't want to work for a company that treats qualified applicants this way.

Behavioral Technical Presentation
First, I had a chat with the Senior Talent Advisor. It was mostly about seeing if I was a good general fit, checking what I knew about the company, and some behavioral questions. They then set up a meeting with the VP of Solution Engineering. In that second meeting, we talked about my past projects, focusing a lot on the design choices and technical parts of those projects from my resume.

Got a direct message to interview, and was asked what drew me to Solace. The HR person kept calling me by my last name, and I corrected her once, but didn't want to seem too sensitive. She said the screening is really tough and I'm lucky to be this far. I guess that's just their style. I passed the tech round and then talked to the VP of Eng. Decided against it after that conversation. The tech stack is okay, but the culture feels like they really push people to their limits. I don't really care if people work 60+ hours a week unless they have founder-level equity or it's their first job. This place isn't a rocket ship.
