First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Software Management Consultants.
Information Security Analyst
I had two interviews. First with the recruiter, then with a senior partner. They both said I'd have client interviews the next week, but it never happened. I gave them a good reference, and it was a waste.
- Technical questions were asked, and they seemed to want very specific answers. I explained my process, noting that there are multiple valid approaches to information security tasks.
- The interviewers were looking for a single correct answer for each technical question, but I believe my approach, which acknowledges varied methods, is also valid.
Consultant
The interview location in Glendale on Brand Blvd was easy to get to, and there was parking in the building. Once I arrived, I waited in a nice and professional waiting area. The interview itself felt more like a chat about my past experience. It was helpful because I got to ask for some career advice from the interviewer who seemed to know the market well.
- Can you discuss your previous project management experience?
- What kind of position are you looking for?
Project Manager
A recruiter from SMCI has been persistently contacting me by phone for weeks about a contract position, even though I've repeatedly asked to be contacted via email due to my work schedule. The recruiter also keeps sending the same rate confirmation email, despite me having already submitted my information for consideration. While I'm unsure if this is typical for the recruiter or the agency, it gives a poor impression. He also inquired about my current salary, which I believe may be illegal to ask in California.
- Could you tell me your current salary?
Systems Administrator
Saw an ad on Dice and they got in touch a week later to set up an in-person meeting at their office. The recruiter meet-and-greet went well. After that, I had to wait two weeks for them to arrange the client interview, and then another week to find out I got the job.
- Describe a challenging interpersonal conflict with a colleague and how you resolved it.
