Automation Engineer
The process was pretty streamlined. It started with a recruiter reaching out on LinkedIn for an initial chat, which went well. The next day, I received a take-home assessment from Coderbyte. It was a bit challenging, and I recall it had specific rules: it had to be done in one sitting (about 45-60 minutes), with the camera on for fraud detection, staying focused without distractions, and avoiding switching between windows or monitors as that was monitored. They do offer some prep before the assessment, not on technical skills, but more to help you get comfortable. If you pass that, there's an online interview. The interviewers were really professional and nice, which helped ease my nerves. The interview lasted about 3 hours. Besides a short coding assessment, it was mostly a conversation to understand my thought process and knowledge. I heard back about a week later and accepted the offer.
- Can you share your experience in Automation Engineering?
Staff Accountant
I was contacted via email to set up a phone interview with the HR Manager. I responded quickly with my availability, but unfortunately, got an out-of-office reply saying they'd be unavailable until two days later, which was the day of the scheduled call. It was a bit strange not having confirmation, but I figured the time I suggested would stand. The call itself was pretty standard, covering typical interview questions. It felt like they were just going through the motions, possibly to meet a quota for speed, and not really engaging with my experience. They asked their questions without much indication of listening. I sent a thank-you email later that day, only to receive another out-of-office reply. It made me wonder if anyone was actually monitoring emails. I also have reservations about the work environment, especially the open-plan office which they mentioned, as it can be disruptive for focused work. The HR Manager's comment about being a 'small company' where 'everyone pitches in' seemed inaccurate given they're part of a large corporation, and it felt a bit disorganized. Some of the job description's buzzwords like 'Be an AWESOME Teammate' seem like generic expectations for any job. Plus, the policy of not allowing references for former employees seems detrimental to one's career.
- Can you tell me about your previous role?
- What prompted your departure from your last position?
- What are your career aspirations at this time?
Software Engineer
I sent in my application directly on their website. A recruiter called me out of the blue a few days later during work hours, which turned out to be a surprise interview. I had to ask to reschedule because I was in a meeting and they agreed to call back in an hour. They didn't call, so I went to eat dinner, and then they called again while I was eating. They immediately started asking about the tech stack, and there were long pauses after my answers. Then they asked about salary, which was way lower than I'm currently making. Their responses were rude, so I ended the call to go eat my now cold asparagus, which was more enjoyable than talking to them any longer.
- Are you experienced with the tech stack we use?
- What is your desired salary?
Real Estate Documents Developer
I had an initial 20 min screening call with HR. After that, I was invited back for a second round of interviews with people from the department. I tried to reach HR for questions multiple times but only got out-of-office replies. The second round went well, and I got called back for a third interview. During the third interview, they told me my personality was too personable for the role and asked if I'd be willing to restart the interview process for a different position, saying my resume would be passed to another department.
- What makes you the best candidate for this position?
- Can you provide some adjectives that describe your personality?
- Describe a situation where you had to resolve a conflict at work.
