So, the interview process started with an HR screening call, followed by a phone interview with the hiring manager. Then, there was an onsite interview where I met with 8 people back-to-back. The HR person was initially okay and reasonable. The hiring manager was great. However, the onsite interviewers were a bit all over the place; some were nice and easy to talk to, while others seemed indifferent, like 'why are you even here?'. I left feeling unwelcome and confused, even though I felt I did my best and had good conversations. I followed up a week later, and HR said the feedback was positive but they had other candidates to see and would let me know by the end of the week. The weekend passed with no news, and my follow-up with HR got no response. Weeks later, I received a machine-generated rejection email. Despite not being desperate to join, I felt extremely disrespected. Looking at past interview experiences, it's consistently negative regarding respect for candidates, timely communication, keeping promises about follow-ups, and the impersonal rejection emails. It's surprising how such basic things aren't fixed, SoFi. It seems like there's no care to fix it because once candidates are no longer in the running, they're considered useless.

The interview process was a bit daunting at first. The phone interview was easy, then there was a very direct group interview. They were upfront that the job is highly micromanaged and tried to dissuade candidates who might not be a good fit due to this transparency. This was different from other group interviews I've experienced. If they liked you, you moved on to interview with two other managers, which was straightforward. The key was to answer their questions and build a good rapport.

Lots of interviews all the way up to VP. They all gave me a strong yes. The hiring manager, however, wanted to go last and that's when things took a turn. He ended up saying he didn't think I knew anything about the job. It was really demoralizing to hear, especially right now.
