First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sofar Sounds.
Crew Lead
It was a short, interactive group interview. I was initially skeptical about the group interview format, but it turned out to be collaborative since the other people in my group were interviewing for positions in different cities. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job. I later found out that a significant portion of their NYC staff was on strike due to pay issues.
- What's your approach to setting up a show in this particular space?
Marketing and Social Media Coordinator
The interview at Sofar had a long case study/exercise about regional and global markets. You could present it however you wanted, like slides or infographics. I didn't get any feedback after, which was confusing since it felt like an offer was coming.
- Can you name some social media influencers you currently follow?
Marketing Lead
I didn't apply for this role; I was recruited for a local marketing lead position. Initially, there was no job posting, and they didn't provide one when I asked, which made me a bit suspicious. The first step was a Zoom call with the recruiter. After that, I received an assignment to create a marketing plan on two fronts: 1) introducing new fans to Sofar events and 2) attracting more artists and venues, including a list of artists and venues I'd contact. I had less than 24 hours to complete this before my next interview the following morning. The second interview involved a panel of three people where I presented my plan. Unfortunately, I never heard back despite multiple follow-ups, and I felt like they might have just been looking for ideas since I shared specific solutions.
- How would you convince a venue to host Sofar events if they aren't compensated?
Live Show Team Member
It was a very easy going experience. Mine was a remote interview through Zoom. The interviewer was very polite and seemed very interested in me as a person. The flow was straight forward and was a little more "laid back" than I had originally thought it was going to be.
- What is your motivation for wanting to join Sofar?
