First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Society of Petroleum Engineers SPE.
Director
Started with a quick chat with the VP, then HR did a screening, after which I had another interview with the same VP, and then finally met with the VP and CEO. This all happened within three weeks.
- What made you interested in the job?
Petroleum Engineer
The interview process was one of the most straight forward / positive experiences I've ever had. I had an initial phone screening with an HR manager and then an on-site interview with my potential manager and teammate about 3 days later. It flowed as a conversation, and they even responded to my follow up 'thank you for the interview' email. The entire process took a little less than 2 weeks. The only thing I didn't like was constantly being asked how much I made in my previous role. I do not typically like to reveal that information, as it may hurt my leverage for salary negotiation.
- Can you describe your previous work history?
Software Developer
So first you have some phone interviews with the people you'd be working with, like consultants, and then with the project manager and senior manager. If you get through that, then there's a one-on-one interview with the group project manager, the senior manager, and the director.
- Tell me about your background and experience.
- What do you know about this company and the role?
- How do you handle project management responsibilities?
Sales Coordinator
The interview process for this entry-level position felt unnecessarily long and drawn out. During the second round, interviewers asked pointed questions about my political affiliations, which struck me as a major red flag.
- What are your thoughts on the Supreme Court's recent ruling?
- Can you share an experience of working with a difficult boss in the past?
