Sales Development Representative
The last interview stage involved a mock cold call. The interviewer chose a prospect from LinkedIn and presented common objections like 'Why should I tell you that?' and 'I'm not sharing that' during the discovery phase. It was an interesting way to conduct a mock cold call for an interview. Given my nearly 10 years of experience, I found it easy to handle, but I won't be moving forward with this company. They don't seem to set candidates up for success, and I suspect entry-level candidates might struggle with this part.
- Prepare yourself to handle objections that shut down conversation.
- How would you respond to the objection 'Why should I tell you that?'?
- How do you address the objection 'I'm not sharing that' when asking discovery questions?
Sales Development Representative
The interview process was quick and nice. I progressed through the subsequent rounds in two weeks after the initial screening and had about a week to get ready for the final panel. Everyone was nice and supportive, and the interviews were tough but felt fair and helpful, not trying to trick me.
- Can you tell me about your greatest accomplishment?
Sales Development Representative
I was super excited to be contacted on LinkedIn for this SDR role, and even more so when they shifted it to a bilingual position. Being a native Spanish speaker from San Juan, Puerto Rico, I really enjoy helping the Latino community, which has been key to my success in previous jobs. After four interviews and a quick cold call role-play where I spoke Spanish, I was told my Spanish was "too casual" and "not proper." They also advised me to "be careful" using the word "dama," a term that's respectful and commonly used in Puerto Rico and other Spanish-speaking places to refer to a woman. I was confused and wish I'd asked for clarification then and there, but I didn't. It was my mistake for not doing so. I later reached out for clarification, but they never got back to me. A week later, I got a call saying they weren't moving forward because my Spanish wasn't professional or technical enough. It made me wonder what the "proper" way to speak Spanish is. Spanish is spoken so differently across the world, and I feel like feedback on language should focus on clear communication, not just one specific dialect. I was really disappointed with how this whole thing went down.
