First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SMS Data Products Group.
Program Analyst
This was for a contract Program Analyst position. It was pretty simple - they just needed someone for the LCAT. These PA positions were always changing because there wasn't much room to grow and the pay wasn't that good since the contract rates were pretty low.
- Are you okay with contract work?
Client Support Technician
I applied recently and it took them a couple of weeks to get back to me. They set up an interview for me on Microsoft Teams. The recruiter greeted me, and then four other people joined. They all had different roles, and I think I spoke with the director, managers from different departments, and the manager I'd be reporting to. They started by explaining what SMS supports. Then they asked me about 7-15 questions and gave me feedback on how I did. It was a great interview and the people were great, even if I don't get an offer, it was good practice.
- Can you explain what DHCP, DNS, and CMD are on Windows and what their acronyms stand for?
- If a user calls saying they can't connect to the internet, and you find their device has an APIPA, what steps and tools would you use to troubleshoot this network connectivity issue?
- Describe how you would handle a disagreement with a colleague regarding a proposed solution or fix.
Help Desk Service Level II
The process was two steps: First, I talked to the recruiter who seemed to know a lot about the job, was quick to reply to my questions, and called back when they didn't have the answer right away. Second, I met with the direct supervisor/on-site program manager, who asked me behavioral and technical questions. They weren't too hard if you already have a security+ certification.
- How would you describe your leadership style when facing challenging circumstances, and what is your expertise in network monitoring?
- Could you describe your leadership style in difficult situations and your knowledge of network/monitoring?
EMS Engineer
I applied for the job and a recruiter gave me a call to check if the job was a good fit and to verify my background. Then, I met with a technical manager who assessed my technical skills. Since it was a contract position through a prime contractor, I also had to meet with them. After that, we finalized everything via email and phone calls and I got the offer.
- Can you tell me about your engineering experience with the specific tools used for this role?
