First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Smoker & Company.
Administrative Assistant
First, I had a phone call, and then they invited me for an in-person meeting. The first interview had one interviewer, and the second one had another person. It felt pretty casual, and the interviewers were helpful, answering all my questions.
- Describe how you would manage a challenging customer interaction.
Marketing Director
I had two interviews, where I had to present a detailed execution plan. I also spoke with the executive staff and had a reference check done. The second interview was a Q&A session about the execution plan.
- What revenue increases are expected?
Recruiter
The hiring process involved 2 interviews followed by an offer. The first interview was with HR/Recruiter and included standard, somewhat tense questions. Despite the atmosphere, a second interview was offered. This second interview was with the hiring manager and/or the owner. For accounting candidates, the owner may ask technical questions related to accounting. It's unlikely you'll feel a strong connection during the interviews, as the owner doesn't focus on personal connections and shows little emotion. After the first interview, which lasts about 1.5 hours, you'll need to complete a simple aptitude test and a personality profile evaluated by Sterling Management Systems.
- How willing are you to make sacrifices, such as working long hours?
Computer
They did a personality quiz as part of the first interview, which went for about an hour and a half. Then there was a short interview with HR and IT where they asked about my background and current role, and how I handle difficult situations. They also talked a lot about the company's direction. After two interviews and a lot of time invested, they ghosted me for weeks and never replied to follow-up emails, not even to say I didn't get the job.
- After investing a lot of time and going through two interviews, I never heard back after a few weeks and wasn't even told I didn't get the job. My follow-up emails were ignored.
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult situation.
- What are your current responsibilities?
