I was initially considered for a semiconductor technician role, but then they offered a semicon Quality Engineer position. They asked about my availability for working hours and if the location could be changed. I confirmed that all conditions were acceptable, but I didn't hear back for two months.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

This role is for the school division, so the process might be different elsewhere. It started with a detailed phone interview where they asked about my past experience related to the job. Since it's an overseas role, they also asked about my reasons for going to China and my future goals. The in-person interview involved meeting several staff members who asked technical questions on various aspects of IT. As an IT Director, you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be able to discuss topics like Active Directory, Exchange, web tech, software, and databases intelligently, and have a basic grasp of hardware. The IT department here is broad, including phone, AV, PA, and security systems. It's good to have a general understanding of these to talk smartly about them, and to show you can manage projects and vendors in these areas, even without deep expertise. Also, this is a bilingual environment (Chinese/English), and since some staff only speak one language, strong command of both is crucial for this senior role.
