Account Manager
Standard interview process. HR reached out for an initial phone call to screen my experience. They were upfront about the salary being below average for the Bay Area and left the decision of whether to proceed to an in-person interview up to me, given the substantial pay cut from my previous role. We scheduled the in-person interview for the following week. I met with five people: four managers and the director of client relations. I was really impressed by the managers; they were knowledgeable and passionate. They mostly asked standard questions but were really engaged and answered all my questions thoroughly. The Director kept things informal but asked some great questions about my resume achievements, making it feel more like a positive working session than an interview.
- Could you tell me your top three strengths?
- How do you navigate working within a social setting?
- What's your understanding of what a startup is?
Business Analyst
The interview process was utterly appalling, especially with the head of SmartZip India. It lasted a grueling 2.5 hours, and I left feeling completely crushed and humiliated. Normally, a rejection takes guts to accept and learn from, but half an hour should be enough to determine if I'm a good fit. I question why the company head would dedicate so much time to relentlessly break down someone much younger. No candidate should endure such a prolonged and harsh interview. Despite my experience, I still believe SmartZip is a good company and I won't let this unfair interview define my perception. I wish them the best with their product. I suspect he'll dismiss my feedback as emotional and false, but my interview experience was truly bizarre, marked by a complete lack of ethics and honor, replaced by intimidation and bullying.
- Can you share your thoughts on the 3 awards I've listed on my CV?
- What are your views on the importance of conviction in one's thoughts?
- Regarding how a BA's role is described, does 'A BA should have...' or 'A BA's responsibility is...?' sound better?
Account Manager
Applied on the company website and then got contacted by an HR Specialist for a phone interview. The HR Specialist was professional and friendly. The interview was about the company and the position. I summarized my work experience and referenced how it correlated with the position. I was also asked standard interview questions regarding my reasoning for wanting to work there. Towards the end, there was a salary and commission discussion and an invitation for a group interview with people from the Client Services team.
- Tell me about your previous work experience and how it relates to this role.
- What motivates you to seek employment with our company?
- Let's discuss your salary expectations and commission targets.
Software Engineer
I was first reached out to by an external recruiter, and we chatted about the job and my background. Then I had a phone screen with an engineering manager. After that, I had an on-site interview that lasted about three hours and involved meeting with several people. I talked with the engineering manager about my job experience and the work they're doing. I also spoke with the data analytics manager, where we mostly went over my education and background. There was a quick chat with a marketing manager, and finally, I met with the CEO who went over the business plan.
- Given ants on a stick that reverse direction upon meeting, how long until they all fall off?
