First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SmartBank.
Credit Analyst
First, I had some interviews with the company's HR team. They were really friendly and asked me questions about my background, why I was interested in the role, and some general professional stuff. Then, I interviewed with someone from the credit team. That interview focused more on credit-specific questions, and they were also friendly. Overall, it was a good experience.
- Could you walk me through your process for evaluating a new loan application from a credit perspective?
Data Engineer
Started with Hacker Hank, a two-hour test. Then an interview with a technical lead. After that, an interview with one of the company owners. The interviews weren't prepared, questions were just thrown out, my resume wasn't looked at or commented on by the technical lead, and neither of them saw or commented on the Hacker Hank answers. I don't know why about Hacker Hank.
- Questions about algorithms
- Questions about data structures
Underwriter
It was a really open and honest interview process with a friendly hiring team. I went through several interview rounds but ended up accepting another job offer during this time. They were upfront about the role and its responsibilities.
- Can you share examples of your previous underwriting experience?
- What kind of pipeline load are you familiar with?
- How do you typically interact and participate within a team?
Credit Analyst
The interview was about 60 minutes. I spoke with HR and the hiring manager. The first 30 minutes were about my background and experience. The last 30 minutes were for questions, about five or six.
- We've discussed your strengths, could you elaborate on your weaknesses?
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a personal conflict in a professional setting?
- Could you share an example of a success you had in a previous role?
