First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SMART I.T. Services.
Systems Engineer
This job is pretty wild, not gonna lie. They work in the dark all day, and there's no tiered help desk. You're expected to take calls while working on tickets. If you can't fix a problem, you can't escalate it. You have to 'ask the person next to you or stand up and call out to the room and hope that someone can help you.' Seriously. And even though your attention is split, you have a timer for tickets, and you have to move on after 10 minutes, no matter what. They also asked if I'd be okay with being on call 24/7 for a week every two months because they don't hire people for other shifts. When I brought up these concerns, they just said 'this is how we do things here.' The assessment was mostly about knowing IT acronyms and memorizing internet protocols and ports. The receptionist wasn't friendly, and I saw cameras everywhere, just like in some reviews. They dismissed the negative Glassdoor reviews as 'a few employees making a big stink,' but I didn't see anything to disprove them. Honestly, the average workday sounds like a stressful nightmare stuck in a loop of unfinished tickets and constant calls, all while in the dark.
- Tell me about your strengths.
- What about your weaknesses?
- What's your favorite vacation spot?
Tech Support Specialist
The interview process started with a phone call where they asked some basic tech questions. Then, there was a second round which began with a test, followed by a one-on-one meeting with a manager. The third round involved the owner and two other managers. Even though I didn't do well on the test and the owner seemed unimpressed with some of my answers, I was still offered the job, along with a bonus if I quit my current role immediately. This made me suspicious, so I looked into the company and found mostly bad reviews. Reflecting on the interview, I noticed patterns that confirmed some of the negative feedback. This was enough for me to decline the offer and the bonus, and not leave my current job.
- Can you design a complete network for a 12-person company, even with limited information, including specific brands and hardware details?
Help Desk Technician
So the interview process started with a phone call. It was like a robot asking me about 10-15 questions, which didn't seem to have anything to do with the next part. The next day, I went to the office for what they called an "in person interview." Right when I got there, they handed me a written test. I was totally unprepared for that. I ended up answering about 8 out of 35 questions. Then the receptionist asked if I wanted to continue the interview, and I just walked out. I mean, a written test is one way to filter people, but it doesn't really show what someone knows or their experience. After checking out the Glassdoor reviews and seeing how depressing the office looked, I felt good about my decision to leave.
- How would you go about setting up a network for a 12-person office, and what equipment would be necessary? You could draw or write your response.
- Given a list of abbreviations, what do they stand for?
- What is the subnet mask for the IP address provided?
Marketing
It was 3 rounds of interviews... The first was a phone interview with a rude-demanding style by one of his under qualified minions. The second was a "closed-door" interview with Mr. FETTY...DO NOT wear open toed shoes if you don't want to be told later than your boots were "sexy".....The third was a group interview with the Entire office...they r so afraid to anger the CEO that no one speaks just awkward stares til he leaves.
- I was forced to take not 1 but 2 personality tests by Jerry Fetty because the first didn't exactly match what he wanted....then on day 85 i was fired with out reason, after 13 accounts and complaints by me made to Jerry about his conduct around me and his gross sexual advances!!!, any ways he then said i wasn't the right fit, but everyone liked me.... ; ) ok!
