First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at SM Retail.
IT Intern
Applied via email and had an interview with the AVP of HR and another HR person. They asked about my company knowledge, experience, and behavioral questions. Then, my profile was endorsed to the hiring manager, and I had another interview with them. This one was a bit more technical, focusing on my hard skills for the role. Got the offer two days after the final interview.
- Could you share an instance where you encountered and managed a challenging situation?
- What insights do you have about our company?
- Describe your past experiences.
Accounting Assistant
There are 2 interviews. First, an HR interview and then a Manager interview from the department you'd be in. The HR person will inquire about your past experiences and your preferred work conditions. The Manager will ask a mix of situational and technical questions.
- Tell me about your work and internship experiences.
- What are your work conditions and preferences?
- Can you provide technical questions like journal entries?
IT Operations Associate
The interview experience was really tough. It was all done onsite, and the tests were pen and paper, which felt old-fashioned. Just the tests took me 3 to 4 hours. I would have expected a company like SM to be more up-to-date with technology. Plus, you could sense the attitude problem from the beginning. I'm glad I didn't continue with this job.
- When faced with multiple urgent and time-critical contacts (phone, email, chat) simultaneously, what is your prioritization strategy?
Technical Assistant
I had my initial interview and then my final interview, and both were pretty easy. They asked me some standard interview questions. The HR person I spoke with first was nice, and so was the person who interviewed me for the final round. But the HR person who called me with the job offer was a different story. They wouldn't negotiate salary at all and lowballed me pretty hard, not even meeting my expected salary which wasn't even that high. Also, they clearly didn't read my CV because they said, 'oh, I didn't know you're currently employed' when I was explaining my current rate during the salary negotiation.
- What is your competitive advantage?
- What are your shortcomings, and how do you manage them?
