SLB Field / Application Engineer Interview Questions

The SLB interview process usually kicks off with an online application and an aptitude test. After that, there's a phone or video screening. If you pass, you'll get invited for a technical or panel interview where they check your problem-solving skills, engineering knowledge, and how you handle situations. Sometimes, there's also a behavioral interview to see how you work with others, your flexibility, and if you fit with the company culture. For field or engineering jobs, they might throw in a field-specific assessment or a case study. The last step is the decision, offer talks, and pre-employment checks. They're really looking at your technical skills, how well you communicate, your safety focus, and if you're up for tough working conditions.

It was a tough but smooth process overall. Just be prepared to share your thought process and engineering skills. They asked about engineering principles (e.g., mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical systems), problem-solving scenarios (e.g., troubleshooting field equipment), and your understanding of the oil and gas industry, specifically in relation to operations. Also, there were behavioral questions to evaluate how you approach challenges, work in teams, and handle field conditions.

I had two rounds of interviews for the Field Engineer position. The first was a general 30-minute chat, and the second was a more focused, hour-long discussion about department-specific topics. In the initial interview, HR asked me to introduce myself and share my knowledge about SLB. The second interview involved department managers who inquired about my ability to work in a field setting and asked other questions related to horizontal drilling and mud formulation.
