Applied through my university's career website. Had a Teams call with a recruiter, and we clicked. She suggested a first-round interview with campus recruiters the next day. I agreed and went to the interview. It was pretty rough; one recruiter was really rude, criticized me for not having an internship before graduating, and kept cutting me off. After that, I had another Teams meeting with the first recruiter. It was a 30-minute chat, interview-style, and then I found out I didn't get the job. The company seems interesting, but their interview process and attitude need work.

The process started with submitting a resume. The Talent Manager from Slalom responded within 8 hours, which was a positive sign. After reviewing my CV and extensive operations experience (strategy deployment, lean sigma, lean leadership, lean manufacturing implementation), the Talent Manager wanted to set up an interview. We scheduled it three weeks later due to busy schedules. The conversation was good, with questions about my background. The recruiters asked about my experience consulting for, running, and selling companies. Despite being told I had all the qualifications and they had 'checked all the boxes,' I received a rejection email two days later stating they didn't have work fitting my skill-set. This was despite my qualifications matching their website's requirements. I believe the recruiters were focused on meeting recruiting quotas rather than finding a suitable candidate for the type of Operations and Strategy work they claimed to have roles for in Portland. If there's no work, companies shouldn't waste candidates' time. They should communicate with their management team before posting jobs. My own consulting business is doing well, so I can speak freely about this experience. Slalom's recruiting process needs improvement, specifically in continuous improvement and Kaizen.

It was a good experience with Slalom. The process included a telephone screen and an HR discussion to go over priorities and set expectations. Then there was a principal interview, a case interview with the team, a practice lead interview, and finally a GM interview. All these rounds were in person at the Slalom office. Everyone on the Slalom team was exceptionally nice and friendly. I enjoyed the whole thing and even got an offer, but we couldn't agree on the compensation. The only downside was that they didn't discuss salary expectations during the initial phone screening.
