Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Slack.
Intern
It started directly with a technical interview, no recruiter call beforehand. I wasn't told what to prepare or what the setup would be. The interviewer was friendly but joined 5 minutes late, cutting into my 40-minute slot.
- A medium-difficulty SQL question
- A hard SQL question
- A medium-difficulty Python question
Internship
So the first step was like this virtual job interview thing where you had to record yourself answering some questions that were already recorded, using your camera. You got three tries for each answer. Towards the end, there was a programming challenge where I had to code in their IDE, and then for the very last question, I had to explain my thought process behind the solution.
- Can you share an experience from university or school where the requirements for a task changed mid-process?
- How would you explain the approach you took to solve the coding problem?
MBA Intern
I had a phone screen in late March with a recruiter from HQ. They asked me some really basic screener questions and a "tell me about yourself" question. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the next steps.
- Do you possess technical skills?
- What is your interest in Slack?
- What about this role interests you?
